Academic Plan

The University of Calgary has unveiled a bold new plan for its future, designed to propel both the institution and the city of Calgary to world-class recognition and transform the U of C into an international leader in four distinct areas of study.

The academic plan, entitled “Raising our Sights”, has been developed at a crucial phase in the University’s life as a means of raising the quality of the U of C’s programs, as well as the teachers, researchers and students it attracts.

Four guiding principles are at the heart of Raising our Sights: we are committed to meeting the needs of learners, to our role as a research university, to multidisciplinary inquiry and to giving back to the community. These principles will govern our priorities and influence our strategic allocation of resources; they will ensure that U of C students will continue to benefit from outstanding teachers and researchers who approach their subjects from a variety of disciplines.

The University of Calgary can be justifiably proud of its achievements to date. To progress further, we need to renew our commitment to our community, to our students, and to scholarship in both its fundamental and applied forms. We also need to focus on specific themes of strategic academic priority. Raising our Sights aims ultimately to strengthen the quality of our academic programs by 2006 and to position the University of Calgary for continuing success.
