The 2008/2009 season of plays will showcase the work of three outstanding graduate directors along with graduate and faculty designers.
The season will open in October with laughter as MFA candidate director David Owen and designers Derek Paulich, Ian Martens and David Smith take us on the quirky and clever journey of a sexually naïve sixteenth-century Spanish nobleman living in a poorly decorated Chicago apartment in Don Juan in Chicago by David Ives.
In November, the beautiful tragic comedy of Hello…Hello by Karen Hines will be brought to stage by MFA candidate director Jamie Dunsdon and designers Julia Wasilewski and Derek Paulich, telling a story of love amidst towering glass, stylish cafés and monumental billboards.
In the new year, MFA candidate director Patrick Finn and designers Ian Martens and Douglas McCullough will invite you to descend with them into madness and join in the journey of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. The production of Hamlet will also feature a Gala Opening and a one-day Hamlet Symposium featuring a special public lecture by Shakespeare Scholar Jim Black.
The season will be topped off by the 5th Anniversary of Taking Flight: A Festival of Student Work celebrating Calgary’s future performers, designers and technicians as they ‘take flight’.
