Adaptation: The Neon Bible and The House of Mirth

Description

Acclaimed British director Terence Davies came to international prominence with two films based on his working-class, Liverpool childhood:  Distant Voices, Still Lives and The Long Day Closes.  Following these successes he filmed adaptations of two American novels, the making of which he will discuss at the talk.  This talk is co-sponsored by the Performance Studies Speakers Series and generously supported by the Department of English.

The following day, Cinematheque Calgary will be showing a newly struck print of Distant Voices, Still Lives at the Plaza Theatre in Kensington, at 7:30 p.m.  A question and answer with Davies will follow.  Advance tickets are available at the box office.
