The ever advancing field of Computer Science creates a constant stream of opportunities for energetic Entrepreneurs. New and innovative ideas can be converted into a highly valued business, often with low cost of entry and small teams. But a good idea is the easiest part! Selecting the team, defining the scope, staying the course and actually selling your product will be a far greater challenge. Guest speaker, Neil Buckley will share his experiences, mistakes and insight’s gained over 20 years of experience in business.
Buckley graduated from SAIT with a diploma in Business Administration, Accounting Major in 1984 and a degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary in 1989. He joined Merak Projects, a Calgary based software development company that same year. He went on to form Merak and Associates, a company specializing in custom software and engineering services. In 2000, he was involved in the creation of OpenSpirit, a joint venture company between Chevron, Shell and Schlumberger to develop a common computing framework for the Geo-Science community. In 2003 he co-founded Enersight, a company specializing in web based production modeling and economic evaluation software for the oil and gas industry.
