Elizabeth Shepherd strives to push the boundaries of what is considered conventional jazz to create a sound all her own. Her playful piano and captivating voice bring a touch of funk, soul, blues, and samba to her jazz.
Raised by ministers of the Salvation Army, an early exposure to the sounds of the Army Band mixed with her love for house, disco, classical, and hip hop music, helped to lay the foundations of a soulful musician. Having trained extensively in conservatories from Alberta to France, and completing a music degree from McGill University, Shepherd has emerged onto the Toronto jazz scene where she has already established herself as someone to be watched.
Shepherd has put together a mix of original tracks and timeless classics. Her latest album, "Start to Move", has gained her a 2007 Canadian Music Week Indie Award for Jazz Artist of the Year, and a 2007 Juno nomination for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.
Joining pianist/vocalist Elizabeth Shepherd are Scott Kemp (upright bass) and Colin Kingsmore (drums).
