As the resident string quartet at the University of Calgary, the UCalgary String Quartet regularly performs in Calgary and beyond. Formed in 1994, the quartet has performed in concert halls across Canada and has been broadcasted regionally and nationally on CBC Radio. Members of the UCalgary String Quartet are: Edmond Agopian and Burcu Goker (violins), Dean O'Brien (viola), and Beth Root Sandvoss (cello). Ms. Goker is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance at the University of Calgary under the instruction of Edmond Agopian.
Canadian violinist Guillaume Tardif has appeared as guest soloists with orchestras in Canada, United States, Hungary, Brazil, and Peru. Among the youngest recipients of the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Eastman School of Music, Tardif earned different awards at the Canadian Music Competition. He has an extensive history of chamber music and recital performances, as well as a soloist and concertmaster with many major orchestras around the world. He is currently Assistant Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the University of Alberta
The programme includes Dvorak’s "Terzetto for Two Violins and Viola" and Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodály’s "Serenade for Two Violins and Viola", as well as "Sonatina for Two Violins" by Canadian composer Sofie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté. The UCalgary String Quartet also performs Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 2, Op. 59 “Rasumovsky” as part of their Complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle (2006-2009).
A pre-concert lecture by U of C music professor will take place in the Husky Oil Great Hall of the Rozsa Centre at 7:30 p.m.
