On October 9th and 10th, the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary will be hosting a unique event: the broadcast of oral arguments in a NAFTA arbitration between approximately one hundred twenty Canadian cattlemen (a majority of whom are from Alberta) and the United States of America. The two-day hearing will involve oral submissions on the preliminary issue of whether the Claimants are entitled to seek compensation under the North American Free Trade Agreement (the NAFTA) for losses arising from a ban on Canadian cattle first imposed by the United States in May 2003. Members of the University of Calgary student community, local claimants, and the public are all welcome to attend.
