Articles and story ideas

Do you have a story idea or article that you'd like to submit for publication in Field Notes?
Unsolicited manuscripts are welcomed and encouraged, although submission is always on speculation and we cannot guarantee that every submitted article will be published. If you would like to discuss your story idea prior to submitting it, please contact: MTfield@ucalgary.ca or phone: 220-5684

Following are some frequently asked questions about submissions

What sort of articles do you accept?
We are always looking for articles on interesting experiences in the MT Program, projects, research results, accomplishments, observations on teaching trends, issues in education, etc.

When should I submit an article?
Field Notes is published twice a year. Generally, we need all submitted articles at least two months before the issue's publication date. Please feel free to e-mail us at MTfield@ucalgary.ca or 220-5684 to check deadline dates for upcoming editions.

Instead of submitting an article, can I submit a story idea for your writers?
Yes, story ideas are always appreciated, but understandably we can only react to story ideas that meet the criteria for this publication.

Is it all right to include photos with the article?
Yes, we welcome photographs, although these might not be published due to space or design considerations, even if your article is. Photos generally have to be of high quality and high resolution to be useable and must be submitted electronically. If you would like more specific guidelines for photo submissions, contact MTfield@ucaglary.ca.

How long should my article be?
Most Field Notes articles are 350-550 words.

Will you edit my article?
Yes. We will edit for length, style, grammar, flow etc. For your reference, the style guide we use is Canadian Press (CP).

Will I get to see it before you publish it?
Yes, but our production schedule will only allow for fact checking.

Will you pay me for the article?
No.

Can I get extra copies of the issue my article appears in?
Yes. If would like a copy (copies) of the issue your article appears in, please let us know and we'll send you some.
