Residency opportunity for writers with the Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Program
The Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Program is accepting submissions from emerging Canadian writers for a 10-month residency at the University of Calgary from August 15, 2010 to June 15, 2011.  read how to apply



Prof. Kenneth Brown, French, Italian & Spanish, was one of two internationally invited speakers at the November 21-22, 2008, conference of the Swiss Society of Hispanic Studies, held at the University of Basle, Switzerland. His presentation was intitled "El canon literario de la edad áurea frente a la literatura judeoibérica" ('The Spanish Golden-Age Literary Canon and Judeo-Iberian Literary Productivity').

He was also one of nine invited international specialists to make a formal presentation at a two-week long conference cycle on the general topic "América y los judíos hispanoportugueses,"  ('America and the Sephardim') organized by The Royal Academy of History, Madrid, Spain, on November 25, 2008. His presentation was "Judeoespañoles en Nueva Amsterdam" ('The Sephardim of Nieuw Amsterdam').



Rowland Smith Memorial Scholarship
The Rowland Smith Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Humanities undergraduate student studying abroad.  To donate, you can give online or cheques can be mailed to the Faculty of Humanities and should be made payable to the University of Calgary with a note in the reference line stating its for the Rowland Smith Memorial Fund.  For more info contact uofcgiving@ucalgary.ca
