U of C finishes sixth in solar car race

Fifteen solar powered vehicles cruised to the conclusion of the 2008 North American Solar Challenge fuelled by sunshine and Calgary spirit as thousands of spectators lined the streets and gathered at the finish line at the University of Calgary today to greet cars including the U of C’s own Schulich I.

Solar team heads to finish line

The final leg of the 2008 North American Solar Challenge (NASC) begins this morning at 9 a.m. at Medicine Hat’s Family Leisure Centre as 15 cars will charge their batteries in the early morning light before heading to the finish line in front of the Olympic Oval on the U of C campus. 

Team Schulich Supports Cancer Camps

Alex Obrejanu was only two years old when he was diagnosed with cancer. He was too young to remember much about the disease itself. But he recalls quite vividly what it was like to attend camps for children recovering from cancer: they made him feel like a normal kid.

Knights Ranking Schulich

The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary earned top spot in Canada, out of 37 engineering programs surveyed, for integrating sustainability into its curriculum, according to the annual Corporate Knights ranking of business, engineering and law schools.

Researcher to fight bioterrorism

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded Donald Woods, PhD, of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, $1.7 million for research into vaccines against agents of bioterrorism.

Storm chasers

Susan Skone from the Schulich School of Engineering is part of a team of experts who have joined forces for a massive project called the Understanding Severe Thunderstorms and Alberta Boundary Layers Experiment (UNSTABLE).

Schulich professor and former dean named to national research council

Chan Wirasinghe, civil engineering professor and former dean of the Schulich School of Engineering, has been appointed to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Charlotte Gill named Canadian Writer-in-Residence

Charlotte Gill is the 2008-2009 Markin-Flanagan Canadian Writer-in-Residence. During her residency, Gill will devote half her time to writing and half to community activities, including individual manuscript consultations with local writers, public readings, and workshops.
