With the closing of McNally Robinson bookstore publishers are desperately searching for other independent Calgary bookstores
to help promote their authors.

Some worry Calgary is running out of independent bookstores but Brent Beatty, manager of the University of Calgary bookstore, says his bookstore is independent and ready to help. Beatty has been contacted by a number of publishers already.

Since April of 2007 the bookstore has participated in over 60 conference and author events on campus and around southern Alberta. The bookstore is one of Calgary's largest with approximately 30,000 titles on hand and over 175,000 titles on their database. In addition to providing required course materials to students, the bookstore has one of the city's largest selections of general reading and reference books, a complete selection of stationery products and art supplies.
