Samuel Weiss, PhD, director of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine, has earned one of the world’s most prestigious medical science awards, a Gairdner International Award. Historically, one in four Gairdner awardees has gone on to win a Nobel Prize.
Sea salt worsens coastal air pollution: study

Air pollution in the world's busiest ports and shipping regions may be markedly worse than previously suspected, according to a new study showing that industrial and shipping pollution is exacerbated when it combines with sunshine and salty sea air.

Keeping African artifacts in Africa directly benefits locals

A University of Calgary researcher has established the first museum of its kind in Mozambique as a way to help stop the excavation and permanent removal of artifacts from history rich communities in Africa while engaging the local population in Western and African academic research-two initiatives that should have started long ago, according to the U of C archaeologist Julio Mercader and Arianna Fogelman, a Boston University PhD student.
