Graduating Art Exhibition showcases many disciplines

By Satoko Brideaux

For more than 25 years, students in their final semester of a Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Calgary take part in a Graduating Art Exhibition at The Nickle Arts Museum.

Students prepare all year for this exhibition and the result is an amazing showcase of painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography, as well as works produced in less traditional media.
This is often the students’ first exhibition at an art gallery—a transition from being students to being professionals.

This year’s exhibition features the work of 14 graduating artists from a variety of disciplines. Each featured student takes responsibility for organizing the exhibition—from fundraising and preparing a catalogue, to physically setting up the exhibit.

This year’s exhibition features works by Kay Parkkari Christie, Shannon Deobald, Kirk Dunkley, Nooshin Esmaeili, Nazanin Erfantalab Evini, Ivan Ostapenko, Jane Poole, Megan Prost, Byron Rich, Amber Robertson, Lauren Grace Simms, Jeanne Stangeland, Michael Stellmach and Roberta Sternloff.

The exhibition takes place until June 13 (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) at The Nickle Arts Museum. Admission is $5 (adults), $2 (seniors) and is free for post-secondary students, U of C staff and faculty, and children under 6. Admission is free on Tuesdays.
