Annual community event to feature new exhibits as well as many returning favourites

By Kate Davis

On Saturday June 14, the University of Calgary will come alive with the sights, sounds and smells of Campus Fair, the U of C’s largest annual, free community event.

With a free barbecue, main stage entertainment and more than 60 exhibits from all faculties and departments, this year’s event will feature returning favourites as well as new and exciting activities.
At the solar car display, you’ll meet the student team, see the U of C’s second-generation vehicle and view a demonstration of its aerodynamics in a wind tunnel. The Haskayne School of Business’ nine-hole mini golf course returns to test your putting skills. And the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering is back with its popular make-your-own Silly Putty and liquid nitrogen booth.
Among the new exhibits are chances to plant your own Halloween pumpkin with Human Resources, take part in dance games at the Faculty of Fine Arts or test your “grossness” limits with “Fear Factor Arctic” at the Arctic Institute of North America.

All of these, plus many more interactive exhibits and activities will take place at U of C from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.

“Campus Fair is really about engaging the community and showing them what we do here at the university in a fun, non-traditional way,” says Heather McCormick, event manager. “It’s important to the U of C that people feel the campus is a place everyone can visit and feel welcome, and inviting our neighbors to campus for this event is a great way to do that.”

Campus Fair would not be possible without the help of more than 600 volunteers who give their time and energy to help make the day a great experience. If you would like to volunteer this year, please contact your faculty office or e-mail cfvols@ucalgary.ca.
