Nine U of C scholars receive Killam Resident Fellowship

Through the Killam Resident Fellowship, nine University of Calgary scholars have been awarded $20,000 and the opportunity to complete projects requiring a period of intensive effort, free of teaching and administrative duties.

mollinThis year’s recipients include: Augustine Brannigan, sociology; Alexander David, Haskayne School of Business; Katrin Froese, religious studies; Ronald Glasberg, communications and culture; Richard Mollin, mathematics and statistics; Margaret Osler, history; Alan Smart, anthropology; Peter Toohey, Greek and Roman studies; Jean Wallace sociology.

The Killam awards, which also include post-graduate research chairs, pre-doctoral scholarships and visiting scholar positions, were established in 1965 by Dorothy J. Killam in memory of her husband Izaak Walton Killam.

Dorothy Killam, a well-educated Olympic-calibre swimmer, passed away in 1965. Under the terms of her will, the trusts fund awards at five Canadian universities (U of C, U of A, UBC, Dalhousie and the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University) and at the Canada Council for the Arts.
