New Arthur J. Child Chair in American Security Policy

Terry Terriff has been chosen to fill the Arthur J. Child Chair in American Security Policy in the Department of Political Science. This position includes an association with the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies (CMSS) and carries with it an appointment as a CMSS Fellow.

Terriff's appointment officially started on July 1. He will be teaching American government at the undergraduate level and American security policy at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in political science. As a Fellow of the CMSS, Terriff will also be a supervisor in the Master of Strategic Studies program as well as in the political science department.

Terriff previously was Reader in International Security in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK. He is also a Visiting Academic Lecturer at the NATO School (Allied Command Transformation) in Oberammergau, Germany. He has recently published a number of articles on military change in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently working on a monograph on the same subject. He is also researching change in the U.S. Army and the US military more widely. He recently was the lead researcher for the British Economic and Social Research Council funded project, 'The Transatlantic Diffusion of U.S. Military Knowledge and European Military Transformation' that will result in a number of research publications on U.S. and European military change. He is a co-editor of the recently published volume Global Insurgency and the Future of Armed Conflict: Debating Fourth Generation Warfare (September 2007). Terriff has published widely on change in military organizations, NATO and European security and international peacekeeping.
