Interpretations of Guidelines

The Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans provides general guidance for the ethical review of research protocols involving humans. Given the broad range of research methodologies and designs the Tri-Council Policy Statement and the University of Calgary guidelines cannot specifically cover every research situation. Rather than try to develop new additions to the guidelines every time an ambiguous situation arises the Research Ethics Policy Committee has decided to provide short interpretation notes to highlight different applications of the Policy Statement and University of Calgary guidelines.
