UofC SSHRC Mentoring Program

2008 Workshops

The Office of the Vice President (Research) and the office of Research Services support a SSHRC Mentoring Program designed to improve our application rate, our success rate and our awarded monies in the various SSHRC competitions, with a focus on the Standard Research Grants competition.  This program includes a series of workshops on grantsmanship (see upcoming dates listed below), one-on-one meetings to deal with more specific questions, and a system of internal review where applications are read by one or more readers who have experience on SSHRC adjudication committees.

Susan Bennett (sbennett@ucalgary.ca), University Professor in the Department of English and former chair/member of various SSHRC committees, currently serves as Academic SSHRC Mentoring Coordinator with assistance and administrative support from Lori Foster (foster@ucalgary.ca), Research Services.

A workshop on how to prepare a successful Standard Research Grant
application will be repeated on each of the following dates. All
sessions will be held in Room 1339 of the Social Sciences Building.

Tuesday, June 10: 9:30 - 11:30
Wednesday, June 25: 2:00 - 4:00
Thursday, August 21: 2:00 - 4:00

Those wishing to attend a workshop are asked to advise Lori Foster, either by
email (foster@ucalgary.ca) or phone (220-3785).

The University of Calgary SSHRC Mentoring program has been in place since 1998 and was first led by Douglas Peers.
