The Office of the Vice-President (Research) focuses on planning and policy issues, government and community relations, as well as having responsibility for such activities as research chairs and institutes and institutional animal care. 

Offices reporting to the Office of the Vice-President (Research) include:

Research Services office provides advice and assistance with sponsored research, grants and contracts for research and scholarly activities, intellectual propperty management, ethics and compliance assistance and requirmeents, certifications, and assistance with new intiatives, cultivating funding and development of strategic grant proposals.

Research Accounting is responsible for the post-award financial administration of all University of Calgary sponsored research and restricted funding, including university administered research, endowment income, and other restricted and special purpose funds. The unit manages all activities from project set up, revenue deposit, overhead distribution, monitoring of expenditures, and financial reporting back to granting agencies to ensure compliance.  Together with faculties, departments and trust holders, Research Accounting ensures that funds are expended and accounted for in accordance with the terms, conditions and regulations provided by the source of funds and/or policies and procedures of the University.

Office of the University Veterinarian: The University Veterinarian's function is to ensure that animal research is conducted and laboratory animals are cared for and used in accordance with government legislation and regulation, the professional and ethical codes, guidelines, and standards to which the University adheres, and applicable University policies ("applicable requirements"). The University veterinarian performs these functions by providing professional and policy advice, veterinary care and services, education and training, and by undertaking relevant research. The appointee may also have operational responsibilities as the Director of an Animal Resource Centre.
