I am pleased to announce the appointment of Glenn A. McMurray, C.A., to the newly created position of Senior Executive Director, Research Services and Research Accounting (RS and RA) at the University of Calgary, effective May 6, 2008. Mr. McMurray is a Chartered Accountant who is currently Chief Operating and Financial Officer at the Calgary Health Trust, a position he has held since 2002.

Mr. McMurray is a University of Calgary alum (B. Comm 1978) and has experience in the private and not-for-profit sector as an accountant, manager and successful leader. He has worked with the University as part of the very successful REACH! Campaign in his role at the Calgary Health Trust.

As Senior Executive Director, Research Services and Research Accounting, Glenn will lead the Offices of Research Services and Research Accounting, which includes the offices of Partnerships, Grants and Administration, Legal and Intellectual Property, Research Accounting and the newly established Strategic Projects Office. The Senior Executive Director will also provide business and financial expertise to the VPR office. Glenn will have a lead role in the responses to all research related audits, both federal and provincial. His leadership will be essential in elevating the level of service to, and satisfaction of, RS and RA stakeholders and users, namely the researchers, faculty, staff and students and funding agencies, government and industry partners. Glenn’s experience and skills will enable Research Services and Research Accounting to support the planned increase in research quality and capacity at the University of Calgary.
