
Dr. Tom Noseworthy
The Provost and VPR are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tom Noseworthy to the position of Advisor to the Provost and the Vice-President (Research) on Public Health for a one-year period, April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009. Dr. Noseworthy is Professor and Head, Department of Community Health Sciences and Director, Centre for Health and Policy Studies (CHAPS) at the U of C's Faculty of Medicine. A graduate of Memorial University (MD, 1973), he holds a Master of Science in Experimental Medicine from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Public Health - Health Policy and Management from Harvard School of Public Health. Tom is a physician, fully qualified in Chest and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Noseworthy has been named one of the "100 Physicians of the Century" and is a recipient of the Alberta Centennial Award. He received the Leadership Award while he was at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, where he was the CEO and President. Most recently he was elected to the Order of Canada.
Dr. Noseworthy has a keen interest in public health and policy. His research interests include: strengthening the publicly funded health system; improving the transfer of health information through electronic communications; and making health care more accessible by minimizing waiting times.
As Advisor to the Provost and VPR, Dr. Noseworthy will provide guidance and overall leadership in the development and implementation of a University of Calgary Public Health strategy. The U of C Public Health initiative will be University wide, involving multiple Faculties and disciplines, and will provide the overarching umbrella for current and future Public Health initiatives, including but not limited to the

We particularly acknowledge the leadership and contributions of Dr. Wayne Giles to Public Health strategy at the University of Calgary. Dr. Ardene Robinson Vollman has played a significant role in the development of Public Health at the University of Calgary, and will continue to assist Dr. Noseworthy in this strategy.
